Here’s an interesting piece of thinking.
Interested parties in Iowa (presumably under the initial guidance of Dr. Richard Williams of the University of Iowa) brought together an expert panel to look at issues around screening and detection of prostate cancer in men over 75 years of age. The panel wasn’t restricted to urologists but included physicians trained in internal medicine/geriatrics, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and family practice, as well as lawyers, patient advocates and physician assistants.
The panel has now issued a consensus statement regarding the value of screening and early detection of prostate cancer in men over 75 years of age that appears to make a great deal of sense. The “New” Prostate Cancer InfoLink has been given permission to post a summary of the recommendations of this consensus panel on this site .
