We already know we can manipulate the immune system in some ways. That is what drugs like Enbrel, Remicade, and Humira do in treating such disorders as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, psoriasis, etc. And there are other examples.

What we do not know is whether we can use immunological stimulating agents (such as Provenge), i.e., the cancer “vaccines,” to trick the body into attacking cancer cells as a form of non-self.

With regard to our children, “The problem lies not in our stars but in ourselves.” Please bear in mind that most children have little difficulty manipulating the adults around them. It is the adults who have lost (or deliberately suppressed) this capability!
