The “New” Prostate Cancer InfoLink has long advocated for a multidisciplinary approach to the evaluation and management of newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients, while quietly bemoaning the general lack of such an approach in the community setting (as opposed to at least some of the large, academic prostate cancer clinics).
It appears, from a recent news report, that in Wake County, North Carolina, the Prostate Cancer Coalition of North Carolina has managed to stimulate a significant and new, multidisciplinary initiative “in the interest of providing each man with a comprehensive understanding of his cancer …, options that are appropriate based on his unique risk profile, and streamlining communication within multiple healthcare systems to assure that each man is aware of the options and services available to him.” Apparently, ”Virtually every specialty practice that provides care, diagnostic testing and support for men with prostate cancer” in Wake County was represented at the initial “kick-off” meeting.
The “New” Prostate Cancer InfoLink applauds this initiative, and we applaud the hard work that the Prostate Cancer Coalition of North Carolina must have put in to bring about this initiative. We look forward to hearing progress reports.
