The Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) of the Department of Defense’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (DOD CDMRP) has just issued the first issue of a new newsletter called PCRP Perspectives, which discusses its activities and which is targeted primarily to interested consumer reviewers and scientist/grant applicants as well as those who sit on the PCRP Integration Panel.
According to Alvin Chin of the Virginal Prostate Cancer Coalition, who is a patient representative on the PCRP Integration Panel, “It represents a good picture of what is going on in this part of [prostate cancer] research.”
The newsletter is available as a PDF document and you can subscribe to it by contacting the editor at perspectives@CDMRP.org.
The PCRP is the only major US government initiative that directs money specifically for research into prostate cancer. It has been funded at $80 million per annum for the past several years. The prostate cancer advocacy community has been making determined efforts to increase this funding back up to more like $125 million per annum for the past couple of years, and intends to continue to seek an increase in the funding level for this initiative.
