In the U.S. House of Representatives, Jim Marshall (GA) and Peter King (NY) are currently circulating a letter to colleagues asking for their support for increased funding for the Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) — part of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense. This is the ONLY federally funded research initiative that dedicates money specifically to research on prostate cancer.
The program’s funding has been stagnant at around $80 million each year since 2001. Because of inflation over those 9 years, grants to continue research into clinical trials has slowed to a halt, and unless Congress acts to increase funding for the PCRP, important research will be forced to remain in the lab instead of moving forward to potentially help patients fight their prostate cancer.
Please just click here NOW to write your Representative and ask that he/she sign on in support of the Marshall-King Dear Colleague. The deadline to sign the letter is March 5, 2010.
