According to a media release this morning the French national health authority (HAS) has put in place a special temporary reimbursement policy that will cover the use of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) only for selected uses of this technique in the management of prostate cancer.

According to a media release issued yesterday, “the members of the Prostate Cancer Roundtable have updated their shared, national policy agenda” which will act as the basis for discussions with U.S. policy makers in 2011 and beyond.

As usual, some of our friends in the media are over-hyping a recent publication about the possible effects of a protein called FUS/TLS in the progression of prostate cancer.

One’s attitude of mind is well known to affect one’s response to certain types of treatment for many different disorders. At the very simplest level, people with a “glass half full” mentality do have a tendency to recover better from their illnesses than those who see the glass as being “half empty.”
