Apparently the US House of Representatives approved the Department of Defense (DoD) appropriations bill last night before “vanishing” for their winter vacation, including (for the seventh consecutive year) $80 million for the DoD Congressionally Directed Prostate Cancer Research Program for FY2010.
The DoD initiative is the largest dedicated prostate cancer research initiative funded by the government. America’s Prostate Cancer Organizations had been asking for $120 million to support this program for FY2010. However, perhaps we should be thankful that this initiative has maintained it’s funding level given the current state of the economy.
For those who want to feel discriminated against, the comparable DoD Congressionally Directed Breast Cancer Research Program was also refunded for FY2010 at the same level as the prior year — except that happens to be at $150 million.
