ASTRO issues draft technical report on PBRT


The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has issued a draft technical report from the Evaluation Subcommittee of their Emerging Technologies Committee dealing with the evolution and current status and uses of proton beam radiation therapy (PBRT). This report may be of interest to some regular visitors to this site.

The full report is available on the ASTRO web site and is nearly 100 pages in length. Detailed discussion of PBRT in treatment of prostate cancer appears on pages 36-61 of the report, concl.uding with the folloiwing statement, “[B]ased on the current data proton therapy is an option for prostate cancer but current data do not show any clear benefit over the existing therapy of IMRT photons.”

ASTRO is requesting public comment on the report from interested parties by May 27. If you wish to provide comments on this draft document, please send an e-mail to ASTRO with the title of the document in the subject line of your e-mail.
