An amendment to the Defense Appropriations Act offered by Congressman Cliff Stearns (R, FL) on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday has added back $16 million to the Department of Defense’s Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP). The amendment was passed by a voice vote and supported by members of both political parties.
While this does not guarantee that funding for the PCRP will be maintained at $80 million for FY 2012 (as opposed to the $16 million we had earlier projected) when the issue comes up for discussion in the Senate, we are pleased to see such strong support for specific funding of the PCRP from both sides of the aisle in the House — even at a time of significant fiscal constraints. We would also like to thank Congressman Stearns for bringing this amendment to the floor of the House for a vote.
