PCPC3 advocates for long-term funding increase for DoD PCRP

PCPC3 — the the patient-centered prostate cancer collaborative coalition — has just issued a detailed statement in strong support of an increase in the funding for the Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) within the US Department of Defense. As a member of PCRP, Prostate Cancer International, supports this statement, as does The “New” Prostate Cancer InfoLink.

PCPC3 understands that such an increase in the funding for the PCRP — ideally from the current $80 million back up to more like $120 million per annum, will not come without strong advocacy. And PCPC3 further understands that such an increase will not come overnight. However, PCPC3’s members have been willing to “go on record” as stating that such an increase in funding is needed if PCRP is going to be able to continue to act as a strong and effective catalyst for high quality, translational research that can help to improve the quality of care available to men with prostate cancer.

The PCRP is just one of several initiatives funded by Congress through the annual appropriation for the Department of Defense (DoD), and is administered through the DoD’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).
