Yesterday evening we were able to spend an hour talking with Dr. Paul Schellhammer — a prostate cancer patient and also a widely recognized prostate cancer specialist — about issues related to quality of life and “living well” after diagnosis and treatment for prostate cancer over time. The recording of this conversation is now available on line on the CureTalks web site.
We have also provided links (below) to some specific resources — most particularly for patients with more advanced disease — that were mentioned during the discussion (by Dr. Schellhammer or the panelists):
- A urologist’s personal view of prostate cancer, by Paul Schellhammer in the Turkish Journal of Urology (which describes his own personal prostate cancer journey over the past 17 years and includes some information about quality of life issues)
- Androgen Deprivation Therapy: An Essential Guide for Prostate Cancer Patients and Their Loved Ones, by Richard Wassersug et al.
- Hormone Therapy for Prostate Cancer — a Patient Guide (from the University of California, San Francisco)
We shall be having a second program at the end of May that is focused more on the potential for more research into the ways that better and larger trials might be conducted into quality of life factors for men living with prostate cancer.
Our thanks to Dr. Schellhammer and the other panelists for their time and help with this program.
