Data from eight patients in a small clinical trial have suggested that stem-cell therapy may be able to restore erectile function in men treated for prostate cancer by radical prostatectomy.
According to a report in Newsweek, a team of Danish researchers is now conducting a 70-patient clinical trial in which stem cells are injected into the base of the penis to see if the initial results can be replicated.
To quote Prof. Soren Sheikh, the director of the Danish Center for Regenerative Medicine, where this research is being conducted, “These trials look good, but there is still a way to go.”
Apparently the full results of the initial study are to be presented in July at a meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Barcelona, Spain. Your sitemaster has no further information about thsi study at this time.
