This will be our last reminder that Prostate Cancer International is holding its second annual prostate cancer patient meeting (“Prostate Cancer Today: Living Well; Choosing Wisely”) on October 13, 2018, in Virginia Beach, near Norfolk, Virginia, USA. As of this morning we have > 170 advance registrants for this meeting.
We currently have our fingers crossed that any damage caused by Hurricane Florence over the next few days will be (relatively) minimal and won’t necessitate any major changes to this meeting.
For additional details, please visit the meeting registration site. There will be no charge for attendance at this meeting, since we want it to be open to all interested patients and their caregivers — regardless of their financial situation. However, we would appreciate a donation of $25.00 per attendee to help us to cover costs from those patients who are able to afford this. You can make such a donation through the registration web site.
We are also pleased to be able to announce that Dr. Frans Debruyne — a leading European clinician who has a special interest in focal therapy for localized forms of prostate cancer, and who happens to be visiting Virginia Beach at the time of the meeting, has agreed to join the meeting faculty and will be discussing “Focal therapy in the treatment of prostate cancer: what’s promising, what isn’t, and who is such treatment for?”
Featured speakers already include Dr. Paul Schellhammer and Dr. Snuffy Myers (who are both prostate cancer patients themselves, as well as being highly regarded physicians who have specialized in the management of prostate cancer for many years). Prof. Lenny Gomella, from Thomas Jefferson University and the Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia, has also kindly agreed to bring us all up to speed on genetics and genomics in the management of prostate cancer today. A number of other physicians, nurses, and other experts will also be involved in workshop sessions.
Multiple workshops will cover everything from the roles of diet and exercise in “living well” with prostate cancer through to how best to handle the side effects of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).
The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Virginia Beach, VA, and for those who need overnight accommodation we have arranged a special low rate for the nights of October 12 and/or October 13.
